Practicing My Poor English (10)

Uncle Zoeng was very old, but he was strong.
He lived in the new suburb.
Everybody there knew him.
Everyday he woke up early in the morning and strolled in the neighbourhood.
He liked exercise.
In the evening, children living in the suburb played on the lawn.
When they saw uncle Zoeng, they would ask him to tell stories.

On a dusty road, my uncle was driving to Lau Fau San at high speed in a car of light apricot colour.
There were old-fashioned tea booths and garden-like restaurant in Lau Fau San.
Many visitors went there to eat oysters in the holiday.
Lau Fau San was the only place farming oysters in Hong Kong.
When we were in a restaurant, a waiter served us a pot of famous tea and asked what we would like to have.
While we were drinking tea, my uncle said: 'Oysters are tasty. Its flesh is soft and smooth. Long time ago, the literary giant Su Dong Po was degraded to be an official of Hainan Island. In an oyster feast his friend held, Su said: "Oysters in this place are delicious. Don't let the officials of imperial court know that. I don't want to share with them."'
Hearing my uncle talking cheerfully, the owner of the restaurant came to greet us and asked me: 'Boy, do you know how we get the oysters?'
Then a man with bushy eyebrows and a high forehead appeared at a slow pace.
'I bred the oysters you're eating,' the man put in. 'You won't believe that I breed oysters with stone, will you?'
It was very curious.
'Breed with stone?' my uncle said. 'I would like to know more about that.'
'I'm not telling lies,' the man said with a loud voice. 'We mix oyster shells, stones and cement to make something like tiles. While the tide is in, we throw them to the shallow marine water. While the tide is out, we'll put them in order. The smell of oyster shells attract young oysters. They'll come and attach to the stuff. Finally they'll be glued to it by a sticky liquid for the rest of their life. It's a long time for the little oyster growing into the size favourable for eating - about 3 years and 4 months.'
After his speech, we nodded.

A boy rode on a bamboo hobbyhorse.
He ran around at speed.
'Why are you riding the horse?' his elder sister asked.
'I want to be a general,' the boy replied.
'Where are you going to?' his younger sister asked.
'Enter the city gate,' the boy replied.

Yesterday morning we went to the airport to bid farewell to my elder brother.
He was going to study abroad.
In the departure lounge, mother held his hand and said, 'It's the first time you go abroad. You should be careful and take good care of yourself.'
'I hope you'll graduate and return soon.' my elder sister said.
'I'll miss you,' I said.
After the aeroplane took off, we stayed for a while and then went home.

A cicada was singing out continuously.
A mantis heard the voice.
He wanted to catch the cicada.
'The cicada is so small,'the mantis thought. 'It'll be easy to catch him. I'll have a great lunch.'
While the mantis was hunting the cicada, he didn't know that there was a siskin behind him.
The siskin caught the mantis with ease.

It was a shocking day and it was the day a new island was born.
On November 14, 1963, to the south of Iceland, a fishing vessel was working at dawn.
Suddenly the captain, the chief officer and the sailors felt the vessel shaking, just like spinning in a whirlpool.
At the same time, there was a smell of gunpowder.
Then there came a loud noise like thunder from the sky, and billows dashed high on the sea.
Recovering from astonishment, they looked forward.
A volcano could be seen smoking in the distance.
The smoke looked like a big black pillar over 2000 meters in height.
Fiery lava spurted from the volcano.
Some even flew across a long distance of 1500 meters and fell into the sea.
This heart-shaking natural phenomena looked like the sky was burning and the mountains were shaking with thunder.
Although being so far away, people in the capital of Iceland could feel the astonishment.
Scientists, ambulance corps and security forces of Iceland - they all hurried to the sea to get closer to the incident.
At that time, the volcano was still very angry and red in the face.
It opened its big mouth and jetted out horrible flames.
Hot liquid rocks in the flames flew far to the sea.
They fought against the billows fiercely.
The next morning, the rock won the fight finally.
It stood steadily in the sea and stuck out of the water surface.
On the fourth day, the rock sticking out had become 700 meters long and 80 meters high.
It hadn't been completely solid yet.
It seemed that it couldn't withstand the billows.
Five months later, the volcanic eruption was approaching to the end.
The rock still stood erectly over the sea.
The scientists declared that a new island was born.
They named it 塞爾澤.
Five years later, White crucifers grew from the cracks of the cliffs and animals moved about at the beach.
There had been new lives on this new island.

A blind person and a lame person lived together.
One night, a neighboring house was aflame suddenly.
The fire became fiercer and fiercer.
It became closer and closer to the house they lived.
It was very dangerous.
They were in a state of confusion.
They didn't know how to escape.
Since the blind couldn't see and the lame couldn't walk, it was difficult for them to escape from the fire.
As the saying goes, good ideas come at times of crisis.
The blind carried the lame on the back at once and asked the lame to guide him.
Relying on their cooperation, they had escaped from the fire at last.

Living in the modern society, we need to face many problems.
We should trust each other and cooperate.
If you want to win other people's trust and cooperation, you should be truthful.
If we tell lies or our conduct disagrees with our words, we're untruthful.
Plastering over shortcomings, pleasing others, cheating people — these are the reasons why we lie.
When people know that you're a liar, they won't believe you anymore.
If you want to be a truthful man, you should talk and act honestly.

Today I woke up early in the morning.
Seeing the twilight outside the window, I got up at once and went cleaning up.
The sun rises earlier in summer morning.
Although it was just after 5 o'clock, the day was dawning.
Standing alone on the balcony, I looked up at the sky.
The moon had already disappeared.
There were only a few remaining stars and they faded away before long.
The night was over.
A light red colour emerged in the east.
The sun was rising gradually.
The sunlight was bright and brilliant.
It dyed the clouds red, purple, orange...
It was beautiful.
Beads of dew still clung to the pot plants beside the railings a short while ago, but now they had vanished all together.
They must had been evaporated by the sun.
I could hear birds' melodious tweeting from afar.
People woke up to greet this new day.

They're poisons.
Don't eat them.

Fire can burn down the house, so don't play with fire.

On the day of my cousin's wedding, my mother and I went to offer our congratulations.
We wished the couple much happiness together.
There were many people at the wedding feast.
There were many children too.
We greeted one another, we talked and we laughed.

Ming was the driver of our school bus.
He was a strong man in his thirties.
Every day I went and left school by the school bus he drove.
He had an excellent working attitude.
He would stop the bus properly before letting us get on or get off.
He always said: 'Every day I drive children to school or back home. I help them arrive on time. I love my job.'
